It's a little sinister to let the former DDCI cameo in a television show, is it not? Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. I can imagine Americans might appreciate HBO pandering to them, but Game of Thrones is a pretty global show.
I don't think HBO was pandering to anyone, he is a fan of the show and a pretty famous guy in many circles, GoT have had Cameos from all walks of life in virtually every episode since the first seasons.
