Ask HN: Can a Meta Quest 3 be connected to a PC using HDMI?

Google search results on that topic suggest that wireless is the way to go, and HDMI is dead, despite the bandwidth of HDMI being around at least 5 times higher than the best wireless (~1gbps wireless vs. "standard" hdmi ~5gbps, with high-speed hdmi being around ~10gbps).

I suppose the answer is a "no", but is there an authoritative source I (via google, bing and brave search) miss?

    usb-c

check out https://immersed.com if you want to have a virtual desktop that is pretty good. Be aware it's on the threshold of useful, depending on the user. The pixel density is not quite there and you have to turn your head more. Text at the edge of the lens is blurry.

Immersed is coming out with https://visor.com which will be 4k per eye, built for the virtual desktop first (tradeoffs vs generic device like Quest3 or Apple VisionPro)

If you're thinking about using the Quest 3 as a monitor, you might Google around for buyer reviews about using the Quest 3 as a monitor (via meta horizon workrooms). It seems they render virtual desktops at 30 hz and even people who claim not to get motion sickness normally are reporting motion sickness.

Hopefully this improves and we get a more affordable and open alternative to Apple Vision Pro.

You can use the quest 2 over usb-c. I hook it up to my GPU (2080 TI) and it's displaylink port and I can use my desktop like that just fine.

not hdmi, but display port over usb-c. Though it can't just show up as a plain display I think. Search for quest 3 link to learn more.
